It is the most important industrial centre in Uttar Pradesh where most of the visitors come to this busy crowded city for business as it is famous for leather and textile goods of fine quality. Kanpur is the most industrialized region and is also an important educational center, with institutions like Harcourt Butler Technological Institute, Agricultural College, Indian Institute of Technology, G.S.V.M. Medical College, National Sugar Institute and Government Textile Institute centered here.
